Dec 2007
The legislation that covers temporary working, The Working Time Directive (1998) has been updated following on from a government consultation about the benefits of temporary/freelance staff.
The good news is that if you are working as a PAYE * employee working through a recruitment agency or directly with an company (i.e. you are paid a gross salary with National Insurance and Income Tax deducted) then your holiday entitlement has been increased from 1st October 2007.
Previously the minimum statutory requirement for all employees was 20 days leave per year including Bank Holidays. Since October we have seen an increase to 24 days also including Bank Holidays. 2nd City Resourcing have been busy working to advise their clients about the changes this means for them and are administering the scheme in line with legislation. There's even better news for freelancers employed on a PAYE rate and they can expect to see a further increase in their holiday entitlement from October 2008 to 28 days. Interim Consultant Sarah Daniels said "this news is fabulous for not only our freelancers, but also those employees who often lost out by not being able to work on a Bank Holiday". She also went on to comment that the changes in legislation were having a positive impact on the quality of freelancers available for work. If you would like more information about the updated Working Time Regulations affect you or your employees then please contact Sarah Daniels in confidence on 0121 665 6768.
* This Working Time Directive does not govern the provision of Limited Company services.
